Von Mai bis September feiern auf Malta & Gozo wieder zahlreiche Dörfer und Städte ihre Festas. Alle Malta Urlauber sind herzlich eingeladen mitzufeiern.
Die "Festas" auf den maltesischen Mittelmeerinseln sind einwöchige Patronatsfeste zu Ehren eines Stadt- oder Dorfheiligen und bereits seit dem 16. Jahrhundert überliefert. Die Festwoche ist der Höhepunkt im Veranstaltungskalender einer jeden Pfarrgemeinde und das Ergebnis monatelanger Vorbereitungen ehrenamtlich engagierter Gemeindemitglieder.
Die Feierlichkeiten sind von zahlreichen Messen und Gebeten für den Schutzheiligen geprägt, dessen Statue von jungen Männern geschultert und - begleitet von Blasmusik, Konfettiregen und Jubel - durch die Straßen getragen wird. Höhepunkt und Abschluss einer jeden Festa ist ein prunkvolles und aufwendiges Feuerwerk, das von den Einheimischen selbst entworfen und hergestellt wird. Feuerwerke sind ein fester und wichtiger Bestandteil der maltesischen Kultur.
